oh wow, that's exiting! I always wanted to go, but I've never been. Isn't it funny, that you tend to see more from other countries, than from your own?!

@FeeMail,

Absolutely. I've been to way more European countries than U.S. states. It feels very strange, especially when my students ask me about various American cities and I say, "Uhh....never been to any of those".

oh, here's an explanation:

i was offered a grant extension and requested a new city (either berlin or dresden) and was placed in dresden. i'm very happy about it!

I've been following your blog for awhile now and love it! I was also a Fulbright teaching assistant, in 2007-08. I taught in a tiny town in Sachsen (Loebau) and lived in Goerlitz. If you haven't been to Goerlitz, you NEED to go, it's beautiful and you can walk across a bridge to Poland! So excited to see that you're living in Dresden, definitely one of my favorite German cities. Can't wait to hear about your new adventures this year!

I am glad you love Dresden. Never been there but definitely planning to visit sooner or later.

Guess it is the same with me like with everyone - I have definitely been to more US cities while I lived there for a little over a year, than to German cities while I lived here (almost) my entire life.

I didn't see that one coming.
I've been wanting to visit Dresden for many years, but never actually made it there. Hope to see more pictures like these, I'm sure they'll give me the push I need :)

I totally love Dresden.
My grand parents live near Dresden and Ivisited this city every year when I visit them for summer vacations.
The city changed a lot in the past years because the restored so many of the old pretty buildings.
Have you been to the international church day in summer ?

Ohh...if you are looking for some lovely towns in places and Sachsen you can always ask me.
I totally love Bautzen http://www.flickr.com/photos/86708643@N00/4895306326/in/photostream/.
It's an amazing city with a lovely historic center. You should try "Bautzner Senf" ;)
If you like german gingerbread you should visit Pulsnitz. Pulsnitz is a little gingerbread city. You can find many little gingerbread bakeries.
My fave is groschky http://www.groschky.de/. I always buy tons of gingerbread while I'm there. These are my fave http://www.groschky.de/Pfefferkuchen/Gefuellte-Spitzen-mit-Kakao-500g::1.html.
They have a little gingerbread museum too http://www.flickr.com/photos/86708643@N00/283361266/.
Sorry for the all the information. I'm always getting excited when I write about saxony (Sachsen).

@Isabelle,

Thank you so much for the info on Sachsen. I really don't know much about it at all, so that is very helpful.

If you are looking for some more lovely places feel free to ask me. My dad grow up near Dresden and he knows even more lovely places.
Did you even went to Thüringen ? It's a very lovely part in the east of germany.
Erfurt and Weimar are my fave cities. Try the christmas market in Erfurt if you have time or just visit Erfurt for some sight seeing.I'm sure you will love it !

@Isabelle,

I've really never been anywhere but Bayern, Berlin, the Schwarzwald and Stuttgart. I am enrolling at the Uni. though, which means I'll get a free pass for all Nahverkehr in Sachsen and I plan to make use of that almost every weekend. I will definitely contact you!
